In the future, will humans not be able to live without physical dolls? It will be as important as the phone
One doll collector predicts that companion robots will one day become so important that humans cannot survive without them.
The popularity of physical dolls has soared during the Covid-19 pandemic, forcing millions of people to give up dating and separate from their partners. But even after the pandemic shuts down, demand for them will continue to surge as technology improves the realism of the dolls.
In her new book, Companion Robots & A Sexless Life, American author Jenny Kleiman tries to test this claim by interviewing a series of owners and manufacturing companies of physical dolls or companion robots.
A collector named David Carter has owned physical dolls for over two decades. He believes that one day they will be as important as cell phones and computers, which have become necessities for the vast majority of people.
David told Jenny: “A lot of people are afraid of cell phones, computers, and all kinds of technology products, because they don’t have any related concepts in their minds.” We will eventually find it everywhere, and life can not be separated from it, and this Will happen to companion robots.
He said: "Hidor (his physical doll) will always be my favorite because it has gone through the years with me."
"I developed a full and interesting personality for him. It's a real relationship, not just sexual. Sex is a big part of it? Maybe yes, but 70% of my life It's going back to a home with a physical doll waiting for me, to share with it what happens every day and my life."
"For me, from day one, it was companionship."
Jenny also traveled to California to visit Abyss Creations, a leader in the production of companion robots, whose models are capable of conversation and are in the process of being installed to give them visuals so they can recognize people.
She told the Daily Star: "When a relationship is possible, the only thing both parties care about is what the other half wants. The most important thing is what you want to do when you're used to and don't have free will. When building a relationship, there is no independent thought, and then it becomes more difficult to communicate with people with empathy.”
"I think the danger with these robots is that they have the ability to make empathy harder because we don't need to use it as much in our relationship with these robots.
"Humans are complex, and relationships with humans require compromise, but relationships with robots do not require compromise. If you are used to uncompromising relationships and don't have to think what the other person is thinking, then you will spend more time with robots than with humans. It takes a lot more time because it’s harder to get along with people and you have to compromise and empathize.”
She continues in the book: "If we could have children without having children, eat meat without killing animals, have the ideal partner without compromise, enjoy comfortably without pain, what could last forever? What about changing human nature?"
"Without our awareness, human existence is being redefined and no one can dictate or control it."
