How to use TPE glue to repair physical dolls?
When you have a physical doll, you may encounter such phenomena as tearing and cracking of the doll, but you don't need to worry! Because there are many ways to repair it, all you need is a few drops of "special glue" to "cure" your beautiful partner.
What is TPE glue?
TPE is a thermoplastic polymer material, which aims to give the physical doll a cleaner appearance and more realistic touch. This material has different properties, one of which is that it is quite elastic, so after use, it will always return to its natural shape.
However, not everything is perfect. This material is easy to dye. Without proper care, it may even break. This is why it is necessary to have the proper and necessary tools to repair your doll.
The TPE glue is a special solvent of this material. Its role is to slightly melt the zero part of the TPE doll and stick them together by applying pressure. In this way, we can see a good finished product and ensure that the product will not crack again in the same place.
These special TPE glues are specially developed to repair the small cracks in the TPE physical dolls. They are usually developed after many tests. The products meet strict standards and are harmless to health. You don't need to worry about direct contact.
How to select the appropriate TPE glue?
So, how to choose the right TPE glue? The first thing to consider is what material the doll is made of. Sometimes silica gel may be confused with TPE. They may be very similar, but when they break, their reactions to different types of glue or available fixation methods are different.
The particularity of TPE does not allow most glues to form a firm bond on it, which is why its glue is not an adhesive, but a solvent. It acts on damaged surfaces, melting them, and fusing them together.
That is to say, not all commonly used solvents are suitable for TPE. Most of them may cause excessive coloring or melting of your doll's skin, which may cause greater damage in some cases.
How to use TPE glue?
Before use, the damaged parts of the doll must be thoroughly cleaned. It is recommended to use makeup remover wipes. Try not to do too much friction, as long as you remove any residue.
When applying TPE glue, ensure that there is no tension on the surface before applying the glue; When the TPE surface is dissolved, the TPE adhesive will adhere. Therefore, immediately press and fix after applying glue, just like the principle of electric welding, welding together. Don't apply too much, just use cotton swabs or toothpicks to apply glue, and wait for about half an hour to dry.
Prerequisites for use
TPE glue is corrosive to dolls, so make sure to carry out it in a well ventilated place, so that you will not inhale any glue that may evaporate. At the same time, prepare pliers, flashlight, cotton ball, wet towel, acetone solvent, toothpick and cotton.
Replacement of TPE glue
There are few effective methods to repair TPE dolls. Most common glues (latex, wood glue, epoxy resin) do not work, and there is almost no method that can match the practicality and integrity of TPE glue. They will not stick to the surface of the doll. When they stick, they usually leave a hard bump, which greatly reduces the experience quality of the doll.
However, there are 3 alternative methods to repair the TPE doll:
Thermal bonding
Due to the nature of TPE, thermal remodeling is a good choice. However, the required techniques and tools (hot air gun, electric soldering iron and bars of different sizes) make this option infeasible for most owners of TPE dolls, especially novices.
CA glue
Also called "instant glue", it is usually used to stick eyelashes, nails and toenails. It can be stuck on the TPE, but it will leave rough spots in the area, like "scars on your doll".
Tianna water
Xylene, also known as Tiannashui, is an industrial grade wood distillate used as the main component of solvent. In a small amount, it can be used as glue, but xylene is harmful to human health and is not recommended.
