Fun Doll Received a Heavy Penalty of 100 Million Korean Won for Offending Female Fan FC Seoul
The FC Seoul team of the South Korean Professional Football League has sparked controversy by using playful dolls as a "supporting audience".
South Korea's professional K League opened last week behind closed doors. The team played ingenuity in the audience to create an atmosphere of support and hope to boost the morale of players. However, the FC Seoul team put dozens of fun dolls in the audience, as well as signs on adult websites, causing protests from the audience. The team issued an apology statement and is now being fined 100 million Korean won (approximately NT $2.42 million) by the league official.
The FC Seoul team won 1-0 against Gwangju FC on the 17th of this month, but the taste of this victory may be a bit complicated. Because the football team placed sexy and playful dolls in the audience as support fans, they were discovered by sharp eyed fans who deliberately chose the style of bulging breasts. The support version was also signed by a certain adult website, which made netizens exclaim that it was too exaggerated and disgusting. The team issued an apology statement afterwards, but the process was unclear, and they also shirked responsibility with the manufacturers who provided sex toys.
Yesterday (20 days), the K League official said that FC Seoul's practices damaged the image of K League and offended female fans, so they fined 100 million won (about NT $2.42 million), which is the highest fine K League can impose on a single team. FC Seoul originally had 7 days to appeal against the ruling, but the team has stated that they will humbly accept punishment.
