British prisoners demand that prisons introduce physical dolls to "reduce violence"
In order to prevent some prisoners from losing their social cognition and interpersonal skills after being released from prison, and to heal the lack of emotional communication in a closed environment, some people in the UK have proposed distributing physical dolls to prisoners.Jack Swaretz, a drug dealer sentenced to long-term imprisonment in the UK, said, "If criminals were given a suitable emotional counseling method - real physical dolls - they would perform better and reform faster."
Firstly, it should be noted that the UK is one of several countries that does not allow spouses to visit. Spouse visit refers to the visit of a prisoner's spouse or partner in a "private" room.
Svarez claimed that giving prisoners a physical doll can help them alleviate their frustration, reduce aggression, and thus reduce violence in prison.
He said that this plan will not even cost taxpayers a penny because they will be happy to pay for these dolls themselves.
He has been serving 17 years in Lauderham Abbey Prison in Nottinghamshire, and came up with the idea while watching a documentary about men living with physical dolls on Channel 4 during his labor reform period.
He told reporters interviewing incarcerated individuals, "I noticed that adult men who live with physical dolls look happy and stress free. They can enjoy date nights, watch soap operas together, listen to music, and do everything you usually do with your partner."
"Some companies produce these dolls, and if this suggestion is accepted, everyone in need of the dolls can express their inner world to the guards, and manufacturers can implant psychological testing functions into the dolls."
He said that these dolls should be included in the list of privileges enjoyed by prisoners, in order to encourage them to perform better in prison. Prisoners can accompany these physical dolls at specific times and locations, talk to them, read newspapers, and embrace them.
"Our prison is full of people who have been deprived of their personal freedom due to crimes, and they are willing to show good behavior for a trace of companionship and comfort. The frustrating situation of being imprisoned for crimes inevitably makes these people restless and feel lost in society and the future."
Swarez said this is a good way to help calm the anxiety of prison populations, as all long-term and highest security prisons in the UK have been informed to prohibit gatherings and many outdoor activities before the pandemic ends, which will make the prison population even more tense.
