British prisoners demand that prisons introduce physical dolls to "reduce violence"
In order to avoid the loss of social cognition and interpersonal skills of some prisoners after their release from prison, and to cure the lack of emotional communication in a closed environment, some British people proposed to distribute physical dolls to prisoners.
Jack Swarez, a drug dealer sentenced to long-term imprisonment in Britain, said: "If prisoners are given an appropriate emotional counseling method - real physical dolls, they will behave better and reform faster."
First of all, we should know that Britain is one of several countries where spouses are not allowed to visit. Spousal visits refer to visits made by a prisoner's spouse or partner in a "private" room.
Swarez claims that giving prisoners a physical doll can help them to ease their depression, reduce aggression, and thus reduce violence in prison.
He said the plan would not even cost taxpayers a cent because they would be happy to pay for the dolls themselves.
He has been serving 17 years in the Laudham Manor Prison in Nottingham County. He came up with this idea when he watched a documentary about men living with physical dolls on Channel 4 of the TV station during the reform through labor.
He told the reporter who interviewed the prisoners: "I noticed that those adult men who live with physical dolls look very happy and have no pressure. They can enjoy dating nights, watch soap operas together, listen to music, and do what you usually do with your partner."
"Some companies produce these dolls. If this suggestion is accepted, everyone who needs dolls can express their inner world to the guards, and the manufacturer can implant the function of psychological detection in the dolls."
He said that these dolls should be included in the list of privileges enjoyed by prisoners, which is to encourage prisoners to perform better in prison. Prisoners can accompany these physical dolls at specific time and place, talk to them, read newspapers and embrace them.
"Our prisons are full of people who have been deprived of their personal freedom for crimes, and they are willing to give a good performance for the comfort of a little company. These frustrating situations inevitably make these people restless and feel lost in society and the future."
Swarez said that this is a good way to help calm the anxiety of the prison population, because all long-term and highest security level prisons in the UK are told that crowd gathering and many outdoor activities are prohibited before the epidemic is over, which will make the prison population more nervous.
